Cem Küçük threatens students participating in İmamoğlu protests: 'The state will take note of this'

Türkiye newspaper columnist Cem Küçük harshly criticized university students protesting the detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu, stating that the demonstrations they participated in would have negative effects on their future careers.

HE THREATENED

Threatening the young people who participated in the demonstrations, Küçük said, "What business does a university student have in the case of a political party's mayor? If you take to the streets, you will be noted. The state takes note."

During a live broadcast on the Habertürk channel, Cem Küçük targeted university students who participated in the protests against the detention of İmamoğlu. Warning the youth about their careers following the protests, Küçük claimed that such actions could leave them in difficult situations in the future.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, whose 31-year-old diploma was cancelled, was detained on March 19 as part of two separate investigations launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of "corruption" and "terrorism."

In addition to İmamoğlu, figures such as Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, Şişli Mayor Resul Ekrem Şahan, and İBB Secretary General Mahir Polat were also among those detained.

İMAMOĞLU PROTESTS

While the protests caused a major stir in Istanbul and other major cities following the operation against İmamoğlu, university students also organized demonstrations on campuses.

Students at leading schools such as Istanbul University, Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ), Boğaziçi University, Galatasaray University, Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ), Hacettepe University, and Bilkent University took to the streets and participated in protests to support İmamoğlu.
