Constitutional calculations have changed: 3 more deputies to join the AKP! If the DEM Party is added too...
While most of the deputies who secured seats in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) from CHP lists are moving to the AKP, 3 more new additions are expected. If the support of the DEM Party is also added, the number of seats held by the People's Alliance in the TBMM will rise to 386. 400 deputies are required for a constitutional amendment.
As 2.5 years have passed since the May 14, 2023 elections, there has been a significant change in the distribution of seats in the TBMM.
During a period in which operations targeting municipalities continue unabated, the AKP has transferred numerous mayors, and there have also been additions of members of parliament.
DEVA, which entered the election on CHP lists, held 14 seats, the Future Party (Gelecek) and Felicity Party (Saadet) held 10 each, and the Democrat Party held 3 seats in the TBMM.
Of the total 24 deputies from the Future Party and DEVA, 12 have resigned. DEVA now has 8 deputies, and the Future Party has 4.
Some of these deputies have moved to the AKP and CHP. In addition to mayors, the AKP, which has also transferred deputies, has added 7 names from the IYI Party, 3 from the Future Party, and 1 from the YRP to its ranks.
In the current situation, while the AKP has 272, the MHP has 47, HÜDA-PAR has 4, and the DSP has 1 deputy, the number of deputies for the People's Alliance has reached 324 in this picture.
It is alleged that Selim Temurci, İsa Mesih Şahin, and Doğan Demir, who resigned from the Future Party, will join the AKP.
With Hasan Basri Sönmez, İsmail Akgül, and Mustafa Demir, who remained independent after the MHP requested their resignations, the number reaches 330, and with the 56 DEM Party deputies, it reaches 386.
According to the report by Sözcü, there is a shortfall of 14 votes to reach the 400 required to amend the Constitution without a referendum. However, since the AKP Speaker of the TBMM cannot vote, 15 deputies are needed.
