Controversial claim at IMM: Are officials remaining from the AKP era mobbing CHP-affiliated staff?

Developments at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) continue to shake the agenda. While recent operations and detentions targeting municipal managers have drawn attention, Yılmaz Özdil has brought an important claim to the forefront.

Journalist Yılmaz Özdil was a guest on the Kırmızı Beyaz program broadcast on Sözcü TV. In his statements during the program, he alleged that some figures still in office at the IMM are applying systematic mobbing against CHP-affiliated personnel.

“THEY ARE MAKING THEM SUFFER”

Özdil stated that some bureaucrats who served in the municipality, particularly during the AKP era, are now making life miserable for employees known to be CHP supporters. Özdil used the expression, “Types remaining from the AKP era are still in office inside and are applying psychological pressure on CHP-affiliated personnel.”

CALL TO CHP DEPUTIES

Addressing CHP deputies in his remarks, Özdil said, “In an environment where the CHP is in power in local governments, the oppression of its own personnel cannot be ignored. This situation must be investigated and intervened in.”

Özdil's words were as follows:

"There is serious mobbing being applied in all units at the IMM, from cleaning workers to the parks department. There is terrible mobbing against CHP supporters here. I go for walks near my home and I encounter municipal employees. I will not say which unit it is so that nothing happens to these people.

When Ekrem İmamoğlu became Mayor in 2019 and since he won for the second time, they did not look at whether people were AKP or MHP supporters. They did not deprive anyone of their livelihood. We are witnesses to this. The livelihoods of those who were managers or chiefs in the municipality during the AKP era were not tampered with."

"They threw the mayor, department heads, and managers into prison. Some of the types remaining inside are currently making life miserable for personnel they know to be CHP supporters. They are forcing people to resign.

Using all the means at their disposal by shuffling people from one place to another, assigning them the worst jobs... Incredible mobbing is being applied against personnel who attended the Saraçhane rally and personnel who went to rallies held by the CHP in Istanbul. I am specifically requesting this from the CHP deputies in Istanbul and the CHP İstanbul Provincial Chair."
