Critical warning from earthquake expert! He pointed to that province

A panel titled "Earthquake and the City" was organized by the Bolu Provincial Coordination Board of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB). Speaking at the panel, Prof. Dr. Gürol Seyitoğlu from Ankara University drew attention to the earthquake risk in Bolu.

During the panel, Seyitoğlu touched upon the city's geological location and stated that Bolu, situated on the North Anatolian Fault Line—Turkey's most significant fault line—holds a special position.

HE DREW ATTENTION TO THE NORTH ANATOLIAN FAULT AND WARNED BOLU

Seyitoğlu said, "Starting from Bolu, the North Anatolian Fault branches out into different segments. We see the 1944 surface rupture, the section that broke in 1957, the section that broke in 1967, the section that broke during the August 17 earthquake, and finally the section that broke during the 1999 Düzce Earthquake. Recent studies reveal the existence of the Bakacak and Elmalık faults.

The rupture around the Almacık block needs to be completed, and in this case, we believe that the epicenter of a future earthquake could be in an area passing through Bolu," he said.

Pointing out that Bolu is also under risk, Prof. Dr. Seyitoğlu concluded his remarks as follows:

"I say this with regret, but a large portion of the fault lines passes through the Bolu city center. In the famous article written by Aykut Barka after the 1999 earthquake, it was shown that when a surface rupture occurs, stress accumulates at both ends of it.

Everyone is in a panic, talking about the potential Marmara earthquake. Bolu is to the east of this system.

Therefore, this system will close here and reconnect to the North Anatolian Fault Line. The situation indicates this.

Just as much as people say the Marmara Sea earthquake is 'imminent,' we must see that Bolu is also under risk."
