The process, which remained limited to only a symbolic group from the terrorist organization PKK laying down their arms, has created increasing discomfort within the ruling wing and among voters. Within the AKP, explicit statements have begun to be made that this process could be terminated.

ERDOĞAN AND BAHÇELİ MEET AGAIN: TENSION ESCALATES

The frequent meetings between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli have strengthened claims of an "opening tension" within the alliance.

The fact that the two leaders met at Bahçeli's residence in Ankara on August 31, just 10 days after their last meeting, caused a major stir in the corridors regarding the fate of the process. This development reinforced claims that the tension over the opening process is growing and that a serious rift could form within the alliance.

According to the report by Merve Kılıç from Cumhuriyet, while pressures are mounting on the MHP front for the "execution law to be enacted as soon as possible," the AKP wing argues that the process has not reached a concrete success. Stating that there is a significant distance, especially regarding the PKK laying down its arms, AKP sources emphasize that "the terrorist organization PKK must lay down its arms without any ifs or buts, along with all its extensions abroad." At this point, the AKP is not warm to any legal regulation without a clear step being taken.

In AKP corridors, it is being discussed that voter pressure is increasingly weighing in favor of ending the process. In particular, the fact that the opening process has not yielded the "expected results" and that no concrete steps have come from the PKK has increased unrest within the AKP's base.

At this point, it is stated that there is a disagreement between President Erdoğan and MHP leader Bahçeli regarding the future of the process and that the attitudes of the two leaders could further escalate the tension within the alliance.
