"OUR CONCERN IS NOT TO ISSUE FINES"

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya explained the traffic measures taken for Eid al-Adha one by one during a television program he attended.

Stating that they have sent the measures to the governorships of all 81 provinces, Minister Yerlikaya said, "There is a peak period during departures and returns for the holiday. There is traffic congestion in city centers during holiday visits. We have taken all measures to eliminate risks. Around 69 thousand police and gendarmerie officers will be on duty. 17 thousand 645 teams and 33 thousand 943 personnel will be on the roads. All 1 thousand 485 of our police and gendarmerie radars are in operation. We have no concern about issuing fines to our citizens; our only concern is that there be no loss of life or injuries," he said.

'UNDERCOVER PASSENGER' PROGRAM

Minister Yerlikaya continued his remarks as follows:

"We have made two innovations in intercity buses. We saw the benefits of the inspection we previously conducted as undercover passengers and have made it much stronger. Our officers in the terminals of 81 provinces, and even in some large district terminals, board and travel on buses as undercover passengers. Here, the driver's attitude and behavior are monitored. Their sensitivity to the rules is recorded. If there is an inspection on the road, they also inspect how their own colleague is conducting the inspection. They record that as well. At the end of the journey, they notify the team there to meet them, and at the end of the journey, they identify themselves on the bus."
