Explosive claim from Özgür Özel about Yılmaz Tunç and Akın Gürlek! 'We know he is compiling a file on you'

The CHP's "Defending the National Will" rallies, organized to demand early elections and the release of imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, continue.

In this context, the venue for yesterday's rally was Istanbul's Zeytinburnu district. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to the investigations launched into CHP-run municipalities as well as the decision to cancel the CHP İstanbul Provincial Presidency elections during the rally.

Recalling the "İBB case exchange" allegation he has frequently brought to the agenda regarding the investigations into the İBB, Özgür Özel made striking statements involving a new name. Having previously pointed to lawyer Mehmet Yıldırım and former AKP lawyer Mücahit Birinci, Özel brought a different name to the agenda this time.

Özel claimed that Akın Gürlek turned Celal Çakmak into a 'confessor' in the İmamoğlu case. He included the following words in his statement:

"In the past, there was a man our embassies were 'fed up' with. Akın Gürlek gave an appointment to one of them. This person's business was fraud, claiming he had influence over the judiciary. Akın Gürlek took this person. This person's name is Celal Çakmak."

Özel continued his allegations regarding Çakmak's use in the İmamoğlu case as follows:

"Akın Gürlek made this person a confessor in the İmamoğlu case. He had him give a statement saying, 'I gave 20 million to Murat Ongun.' Now I ask Akın Gürlek: You gave an appointment to that gang with the appointment he arranged for Celal Çakmak. You know they are fraudsters."

Attacking Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek and Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, Özel reacted to Gürlek's statement regarding the İBB investigation, which called it "the biggest corruption of the century," by saying, "While there is confidentiality in the investigation, what is being done is the biggest impudence and shamelessness of the century."

Continuing his speech, Özel claimed that Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç is building a file on Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek.

"We know the Minister of Justice does not like the prosecutor. We know he is building a file on him. We know that he hates you too. But we see that you have surrendered to fear. You will go down in history as a coward. You will go down as a cuckoo bird.

Now, to that lawless prosecutor, I told him, 'He hit a hard rock.' 'Do not think we will stay silent, we will surrender.' Now, Minister of Justice, if you are not a cuckoo bird, take note now. If you are the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK), hold him accountable."
