Following the CHP's victory in the March 31 Local Elections, the 'normalization/softening' period that began with the AKP was short-lived. The process, which started with the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, continued with the arrest and imprisonment of numerous mayors, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar, and Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek.

Nefes Gazetesi columnist Nuray Babacan carried the discussions within the AKP regarding the judicial process against the CHP to her column.

Suggesting that comments are being made behind the scenes that "the government has entered a struggle for life and death," Babacan claimed that an 'important politician who has distanced themselves from the AKP' said, "The point reached is like hysteria." She also reported that an active AKP politician said, "That is why they are pressing all the buttons at once. Political strategy is acceptable up to a point. However, the point reached is like hysteria."

On the other hand, it was noted that an active AKP politician commented, "Parliament has not been able to function in a real sense for the last three years. Leaving aside the competence of the group management colleagues, AKP deputies have lost their faith; a majority cannot even be secured."

Babacan's article titled "Pressing all the buttons" is as follows:

"Politicians analyzing the process explain that in all the research commissioned by the AKP, it is seen that the party has no chance in the next election and that options are being evaluated.

Comments are being made that a plan is being constructed to pull Kurds to the side of the government and remove the CHP's new political figures from politics with the understanding of 'create a new enemy, find new allies'.
