MHP Deputy Chairman and Istanbul MP Feti Yıldız announced that the investigations into boycott calls and the actions taken against certain businesses during this process have been merged.
In a post on his social media account, Yıldız stated that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an ex officio investigation on charges of 'inciting the public to hatred and hostility,' and that investigations into incidents of verbal and physical violence against businesses have also been included within this scope.
STATEMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
In a statement released yesterday evening, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that boycott calls made via social and traditional media for some time have been under review, noting that these calls contain 'divisive rhetoric aimed at obstructing the economic activities of a segment of the public.' The office stated that an investigation has been launched under Article 122/1-d (Hate and Discrimination) and Article 216 (Inciting the Public to Hatred and Hostility) of the Turkish Penal Code.
PHYSICAL AND VERBAL VIOLENCE INCIDENTS UNDER REVIEW
MHP's Feti Yıldız emphasized that the investigation will not be limited to boycott calls alone, and that physical and verbal violence incidents occurring during this process have also been included in the investigation.
While it is stated that the investigation covers not only those spreading boycott calls but also attacks and threatening actions directed at certain businesses as a result of these calls, the names to be summoned for testimony as part of the investigation are expected to be clarified in the coming days.
