First images from the construction of the courtroom to be built at Silivri Prison
Construction has begun on the large courtroom to be built at Silivri Prison. The first images have arrived from the construction site of the complex, which will have an indoor area of approximately 11 square meters, being built by TOKİ.
Following the acceptance of the 3,739-page indictment prepared within the scope of the "corruption" investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) by the Istanbul 40th High Criminal Court, activity has begun to increase in Silivri.
Due to the approaching trial process, it is being discussed that the IMM hearings, which will involve hundreds of defendants, will cause significant congestion in existing courtrooms and that current capacity may be insufficient.
In this context, preparations for the construction of a new high-capacity courtroom within Silivri Prison have been on the agenda for some time.
NEW COURTROOM CONSTRUCTION BEGAN AHEAD OF THE IMM CASE
Following the discussions and the assessments of Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, the construction of a complex with an indoor area of approximately 11 thousand square meters was officially started by TOKİ.
IT WILL BE TURKEY'S LARGEST COURTROOM
According to the project, when the 3,240-square-meter single-piece hall is completed, it will be Turkey's largest courtroom with a capacity of 2,295 people.
It is stated that the hall is planned to accommodate 555 defendants, 1,268 lawyers, and 472 spectators simultaneously.
Within the scope of security measures, it is envisaged that 509 gendarmes will be assigned during the hearings. It is stated that the entry of the defendants into the hall will be provided through underground tunnels, without coming into contact with other people.
FIRST IMAGES FROM THE CONSTRUCTION RELEASED
The first images of the construction work started at Silivri Prison have also been shared.
