First reaction from the AKP front to the Fatih Altaylı verdict
Journalist Fatih Altaylı was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison on charges of "threatening the President" due to remarks made on his personal YouTube channel. While Altaylı's detention continues, criticism of the verdict has also come from AKP member Şamil Tayyar following the opposition's reaction. Tayyar stated that the sentence would cast a shadow over the ongoing processes and the social atmosphere.
A verdict has been announced in the case opened against journalist Fatih Altaylı, who has been in custody since June 22, due to remarks he made during a live broadcast on his social media account.
Altaylı was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison on charges of "threatening the President." The court ruled for the continuation of his detention.
REACTIONS CAME FROM POLITICAL PARTIES
Following the announcement of the verdict, opposition parties criticized Altaylı's trial while in custody and the sentence handed down.
In addition to these reactions, a notable assessment was also made from the ruling party front.
AKP'S ŞAMİL TAYYAR CRITICIZED THE VERDICT
AKP member Şamil Tayyar criticized the sentence in a post on his social media account. Referring to the "Terror-Free Turkey" approach being pursued in Turkey, Tayyar stated that the process cannot be reduced solely to ending PKK terrorism.
Tayyar used the following expressions in his statement:
"I believe the Terror-Free Turkey project is not aimed solely at ending PKK terrorism. Draining the swamp that produces or feeds terrorism and eliminating areas of exploitation are also parts of the process."
"CLOSING THE DEMOCRACY GAP IS IMPORTANT"
Stating that the process should be handled with a broad scope, Tayyar made the following assessment in his post:
"In this context, closing the democracy gap and expanding the areas of fundamental rights and freedoms is important. There is a need for a total internal consolidation, increasing the reasons for living together, and strengthening the environment of peace."
Tayyar continued his criticism regarding Altaylı's detention with the following words:
"While negotiations are being held with İmralı on one hand, the fact that well-known names such as Hüseyin Kocabıyık, Fatih Altaylı, and Furkan Bölükbaşı are being thrown into prison on suspicion of 'flight' instead of being tried without arrest casts a shadow over the big picture we described above."
