Frightening earthquake statement from expert Üşümezsoy! '6.5 magnitude...'

Making critical statements regarding a possible earthquake in Istanbul, earthquake expert Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy drew attention to Kumburgaz and Silivri, warning: "An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 - 6.5 could occur in Kumburgaz and Silivri. Landslide-prone areas there could also be triggered. In that sense, it is necessary to be careful about that."

Speaking about the possible Istanbul earthquake during a program he attended, Prof. Dr. Üşümezsoy addressed topics of public interest. Regarding the seismic activity that has been ongoing in the Aegean Sea for a long time, Prof. Dr. Üşümezsoy said the following about the fault line in Santorini:

"I say this for Istanbul; what we see from Santorini is a point connected to Santorini. The vertical fault there creates large earthquakes. But there were such earthquakes in Istanbul as well. However, that was 20 million years ago. The mistake my colleagues make is wanting to put the North Anatolian Fault, which is a strike-slip fault, and a fault that collapses like a cliff into the same system. They are trying to explain 20 million years ago and the present day with the same model. In this sense, a foundation emerges that will reassure Istanbul residents even more."

WARNED ABOUT TWO REGIONS

In his speech where he drew attention to Kumburgaz and Silivri, Prof. Dr. Üşümezsoy said, "An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 - 6.5 could occur in Kumburgaz and Silivri. Landslide-prone areas there could also be triggered. It is one of the most populated places in Istanbul. In that sense, it is necessary to be careful about that. But in the general plan, there is no talk of a major earthquake."
