Gürsel Tekin makes funeral analogy in interview with pro-government newspaper!
Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as a trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency, stated in an interview with a pro-government newspaper, "Who could have any doubts about my commitment to the CHP? There is a funeral here; should we not bury it and let it rot?"
The CHP İstanbul Provincial Congress was annulled by the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance. CHP İstanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik was removed from office, and Gürsel Tekin was appointed as a trustee in his place.
In his first statement, Tekin indicated that he would accept the duty, saying, "I will take responsibility to save our party from the courthouse corridors. We will not leave our party to a trustee. We will lead the CHP to a congress in unity and solidarity. All the members of the committee are composed of CHP members. The CHP is our home, our hearth, our everything. All our friends should be at ease. The CHP will be managed by CHP members."
CHP leader Özgür Özel announced that they have expelled Gürsel Tekin, the figure at the center of the reactions, from the party.
Making a statement regarding Özel's expulsion decision, Gürsel Tekin said, "You shout about the 'AK Party judiciary,' but you are in a worse situation than that. Couldn't you at least have asked for my defense?"
Following this, the CHP High Disciplinary Board granted Gürsel Tekin, who was referred to discipline with a request for permanent expulsion, a 15-day period to submit a written defense, and the file will be reviewed on September 26.
While the debates continue, Gürsel Tekin spoke to the pro-government newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi. Stating that they have made their plans as an interim committee and are at the head of their duties, Tekin responded to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's reaction toward him and his remarks that he would not be allowed into the provincial presidency building.
Tekin said, "Bless their hearts. There is no problem. I mean, must politics necessarily take place inside a building? I have always done politics outside of buildings anyway. We will be in the field, we will be on the streets, we will be among the citizens. These will be our duties."
Stating that they have started their duties and that he will not debate the court's decision, Tekin made a 'funeral' analogy and noted the following:
“We did not strive to come to this duty. It is a decision that developed outside of our initiative. We have made our plans with our friends, and we are at the head of our duties. I have sealed my membership in the CHP in my heart.
Who could doubt my commitment to the CHP? There is a funeral here; should we not bury it and let it rot? Should this fight continue? It is a shame, it is a sin. There are 300 people in prison; is this something to fight over? I will ensure peace in this party.”
