He revealed Erdoğan's biggest trump card: 'The real target...'

The impact of the operations launched against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) on March 19 and their reflection on politics continue.

İBB Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained as part of the investigation. The case, which moved rapidly through the judicial process, resulted in the arrest of İmamoğlu and numerous other individuals. However, this move was not limited to Istanbul alone.

The government's operations against CHP-run municipalities spread in waves to other cities as well.

Most recently, the metropolitan mayors of Antalya, Adana, and Adıyaman were also detained on similar grounds.

ZEYREK: “THE REAL GOAL IS TO FINISH OFF THE CHP”

Journalist Deniz Zeyrek explained the purpose behind the operations in his column today. According to Zeyrek, the government wants to systematically weaken the CHP to fundamentally eliminate the opposition movement in Turkey. Zeyrek stated the following:

“The government has realized this: The center of the opposition in Turkey is the CHP, and if the CHP weakens, the opposition weakens. If the CHP ends, the opposition ends. When the opposition weakens or ends, a path to eternal power opens up for them. In short, the government's goal is to finish off the CHP and pave the way for eternal power.”

Finally, making observations regarding the CHP, Zeyrek stated, “In today's Turkey, the CHP is not just a party; it is the main backbone of the opposition. Those who want to collapse it are actually targeting democracy. Acting with strategic intelligence has now become a necessity, not a choice.”
