As the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, details of the one-page peace plan that US President Donald Trump presented to Ukrainian officials last week have emerged in the US press. Trump’s plan, which has drawn attention since the start of the war with his rhetoric of “I will end it in one day,” has sparked controversy, particularly due to provisions seen as favoring Russia.

TRUMP EMPHASIZES “FINAL OFFER”

According to a report by Axios, Trump presented the draft of the peace plan to Ukrainian officials in Paris last week and stated that it was his “final offer.” White House officials also announced that if an agreement is not reached in a short time, negotiations could be terminated entirely.

TERRITORY FOR RUSSIA, SIGNAL FROM THE US TO RECOGNIZE CRIMEA

The most striking element of the peace plan is that it allows Russia to retain control over a large portion of the territory it seized during the invasion of Ukraine that began in 2022. It is also stated that the US would recognize Crimea as Russian territory.

Western media reported that the background of the plan was influenced by a meeting lasting more than four hours between Trump’s advisor Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

While the official response of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy to this offer is not yet known, sources close to the Ukrainian government describe the proposal as pro-Russian. A source from Kyiv stated, “This plan clearly legitimizes Russia’s gains. However, it contains nothing concrete regarding what Ukraine will gain.”
