Judicial crisis in the 6-year-old child bride case! Court of Cassation overturns verdict

It was revealed that H.K.G., the daughter of Yusuf Ziya Gümüşel, the founder of the Hiranur Foundation affiliated with the İsmailağa Community, was married off to community member Kadir İstekli when she was just 6 years old and subjected to sexual abuse for years.

In the case, Kadir İstekli was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The appellate court found the sentences insufficient and overturned the decision.

It requested that the defendant Kadir İstekli be sentenced for both child sexual abuse and sexual assault.

The appellate court sent the file to the local court.

According to the report by Alican Uludağ from NOW Haber, the Istanbul 2nd Anatolian Assize Court this time sentenced Kadir İstekli to 36 years in prison for 2 separate crimes.

While the father received an 18-year and 9-month prison sentence, the mother's file was separated.

The 9th Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation overturned the conviction rulings in the cult abuse case on procedural grounds.

The Court of Cassation stated that it was a procedural error for the appellate court to send the file to the local court after its previous decision to overturn the verdict against the defendants. It requested that the appellate court handle the file itself.

Following the decision of the 9th Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation, the case file will be sent to the 20th Criminal Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice.

The Appellate Court will make a decision regarding the file.
