Kandil claim from Fatih Altaylı: 'It is an obvious fact that the PKK will not listen to Öcalan'

Journalist Fatih Altaylı commented on the process that began with MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's "call" and continued with a delegation from the DEM Party visiting PKK leader Öcalan in İmralı, stating: "It is impossible for me to understand Bahçeli's own transformation, but it was obvious that the PKK and the Kandil leadership would not listen to Öcalan."

Altaylı's article is as follows:

"On the day MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli initiated the New Resolution Process and proposed ending terrorism by pardoning Öcalan, saying, 'Abdullah Öcalan should have the right to hope. He should be taken out of İmralı and speak in the TBMM to end terrorism,' we asked, 'Will the PKK even listen to Öcalan?'

During the previous resolution process, the elders of Kandil had shown that they did not care about Öcalan. Now, they had supposedly changed and would care!

What had changed in Bahçeli was a separate question.

What was the reason for the change in Bahçeli, who had shown strong reactions to Öcalan being brought into the fold during the First Resolution Process, that he now wanted to bring Öcalan into the fold himself?

And the 'nationalist' leader, who had not thought of utilizing Öcalan for the past 25 years, had suddenly turned into an Öcalan supporter.

Frankly, it is impossible for me to understand Bahçeli's own transformation, but it was obvious that the PKK and the Kandil leadership would not listen to Öcalan.

The PKK was founded in 1978.

It carried out its first major action against the state in 1984.

In other words, Öcalan managed the PKK for 21 years if you take its founding as the start, or 15 years if you take its first action as the basis.

For 25 years, he has been away from the organization, and others have been managing the PKK.

Based on this, we asked whether the organization would listen to Öcalan.

And it seems we are being proven right.

Mustafa Karasu, one of the ringleaders of Kandil, openly stated that he did not trust the resolution process and that the delegation meeting with Öcalan lacked representative authority.

Some might say, "Who is Karasu anyway, he isn't even Kurdish?"

But if I say that during the period known as the Oslo Process, Mustafa Karasu was the head of the PKK delegation conducting talks on behalf of the PKK with Deputy Undersecretary of the Prime Ministry Hakan Fidan, the importance of Karasu within the PKK can be better understood.

From Karasu's words, we also understood that the "Old Guard" of the PKK in Kandil does not intend to contribute to the 2nd Resolution Process and that the veterans will not look favorably upon the new proposal of "Dissolve the PKK, which is recognized as a terrorist organization, and gather under the umbrella of the YPG, which the world sees as legal."
