The Ministry continues to expose fraudulent products: Be careful when buying sucuk and baklava!
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has exposed food products with altered contents that endanger human health. While irregularities were detected in many products ranging from olive oil to sucuk and baklava, the brands and producers that put consumer health at risk have also been added to the list.
One of the most striking products on the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's new exposure list is olive oil. It was determined that seed oils and lower-quality olive oils were mixed into some olive oils that should have been completely natural.
This situation revealed that consumers were unknowingly purchasing low-quality and unhealthy oils.
FINDINGS IN SUCUK
Analyses conducted by the Ministry brought a major scandal to light in heat-treated sucuk. Chicken head, offal (head meat), and mechanically separated poultry meat were detected in some sucuk products.
Such irregular practices in sucuk products have increased concerns regarding food safety.
SUNFLOWER SEEDS INSTEAD OF PISTACHIOS IN BAKLAVA
It was also determined that fraud was committed in pistachio baklava, one of the most beloved desserts of Turkish cuisine.
The analyses revealed that sunflower seeds were used instead of the pistachios used in baklava.
CHEESE ALSO AFFECTED
Milk and dairy products were also affected by the fraud. It was determined that vegetable oil was used in addition to milk in fresh kashar cheeses.
