'Morgue' crisis in major Bolu tragedy: Capacity exceeded
A fire at a hotel in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort has led to a major tragedy. In the incident, which resulted in 10 deaths and 32 injuries, bodies are being placed in refrigerated trucks due to the morgues reaching capacity.
A 13-story hotel located at the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort was engulfed in flames following a fire that broke out at midnight.
The hotel's wood-paneled exterior caused the fire to spread rapidly, and the occupancy rate was at the 80-90 percent level due to the semester break. There were 237 people staying at the hotel.
The fire made intervention by teams difficult due to the hotel's location on the edge of a cliff.
Although the 112 Emergency Call Center was notified upon the flames being noticed, the fire became uncontrollable in a short time.
According to official statements, 66 people lost their lives in the fire. However, Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan stated that the death toll could be much higher.
MORGUES EXCEEDED CAPACITY
The intensity of the fire and the density of people in the hotel bring with them the concern that the loss of life will increase.
Due to the morgue capacity being full, the bodies were moved to refrigerated trucks belonging to a food company located in front of the Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal Training and Research Hospital.
