New details on the separatist terrorist organization PKK's disarmament process... 'Ceremony' will be closed to the press and secret

A historic step is being taken this week in the process initiated by the call of MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli on October 22, 2024, to Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the separatist terrorist organization PKK, who is currently in İmralı. The terrorist organization PKK is preparing to gradually lay down its arms in different regions of Iraq.

The first disarmament ceremony will be held in Sulaymaniyah on Friday, July 12. According to information obtained, a group of 30 to 50 people will leave the organization, and the weapons in their possession will be burned and destroyed. All surrendered weapons will be recorded.

The terrorists who lay down their arms will be allowed to remain in Iraq; their return to Turkey is not on the agenda for the time being.

CHP SUPPORTED THE PROCESS BUT WILL NOT ATTEND THE CEREMONY

It has been learned that the DEM Party has invited political parties, the business world, civil society, and bar associations to the ceremony in Sulaymaniyah. The CHP was among the parties that received an invitation. However, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated that they support the process but announced that they will not attend the ceremony.

Özel made the following statements in his remarks on Halk TV:

“This should be carried out as a state project. If a Parliamentary Commission had been established, all parties had been represented, and an observer delegation had been formed, we would have participated directly in the process. However, there is no clarity in the organization at the moment. It is limited to an invitation from the DEM Party. For this reason, we will not be there. But we will not sabotage the process.”

INTENSE DIPLOMACY IN THE ANKARA-BAGHDAD-ERBIL TRIANGLE

The diplomatic leg of the process is being conducted between Turkey, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq. National Intelligence Organization (MİT) President İbrahim Kalın continues his meetings with his Iraqi counterparts. It has been learned that Kalın will go to Baghdad in the coming days to hold new contacts with the President, the Prime Minister, and intelligence officials.

Within the scope of these contacts, security coordination, the disarmament calendar, and the supervision of those who leave the organization will be addressed.

PARLIAMENTARY COMMISSION IS COMING, TBMM WILL WORK DURING THE SUMMER

The parliamentary leg of the disarmament process is also taking shape. A special commission to be established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) will both monitor the process and prepare the necessary legal regulations. MİT President Kalın is also expected to meet with Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş before the commission is established.

The commission's scope of duty will include the disarmament process, policies for reintegration into society, and the judicial dimension. For this reason, the summer recess of the TBMM has been postponed.

LEGAL REGULATIONS ON THE AGENDA

Comprehensive legal regulations are also planned for the legal basis of the process. Topics such as some amendments to the Anti-Terror Law, flexibility in the execution system, and the review of trustee appointments are on the agenda. However, officials are determined that “a perception of impunity should not be created.”

CEREMONY WILL BE SECRET

According to a statement made by Qandil sources on July 7, the disarmament ceremony to be held in Sulaymaniyah will be closed to the press for security reasons. The ceremony will not be broadcast live, and journalists will not be admitted.

Participants will be able to watch video recordings on a screen to be set up after the ceremony. Officials announced that this decision was made due to “changing security conditions.”
