Following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, there were protests in many cities across Turkey. Tens of thousands of people took to the streets to protest the detention and subsequent arrest of İmamoğlu.

The Institute for Social Studies analyzed those who participated in the demonstration in Ankara, where the most crowded and intense police intervention took place.

According to the published analysis note by Yağmur Uzunırmak, the study was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 208 people at the protest site in Kızılay.

The rate of participants under the age of 35 in the Ankara protests is 94.2% in our study. If the results of our survey in Ankara Kızılay on the relevant dates show similar characteristics on a national scale, we may be facing the youngest protestor profile in the country's history.

64.4% of the protesters are male and 35.6% are female.

70.2% are in the 12-24 age range. 24% are in the 24 to 35 age range.

55.3% are university students. 21.2% are college graduates.

98% stated that their native language is Turkish.

61.1% of those participating in the research are students and 19.7% are workers.

According to the analysis note, from a demographic perspective, it is observed that the protesters are much younger, much more educated, and largely students compared to Turkey's general population.

When asked how satisfying they find their current economic situation, 31.7% of the protesters stated that they do not find it satisfying at all.

When asked, "How do you think Turkey will develop economically in the near future under the current government?", 63.5% of the participants marked the option that it will be much worse.

37.2% of the protesters think, "As long as Turkey's administration continues in this way, no matter what I do, I will not have a good future in this country."

The voting preferences of the protesters were also among the questions asked in the research.

Those who stated that they voted for the Republican People's Party (CHP) make up almost half of the protesters with a rate of 46.9%. The vote share of the Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) among the demonstrators was measured at 15.9%.

The IYI Party was measured at 6.3%, the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) at 4.8%, and the DEM Party at 2.4%. The rate of those who do not vote due to their age is 16.4%.

The protesters were also asked who they would vote for in the next election.

CHP was measured at 52.9%, Victory Party at 23.8%, IYI Party at 5.3%, TİP at 4.4%, and DEM Party at 1.5%.

Regarding the presidential candidacy, 49.5% said they would vote for Ekrem İmamoğlu, and 39.8% said they would vote for Mansur Yavaş. Selahattin Demirtaş's rate is 2.9%.

According to 54.3% of the protesters, the most important problem that Turkey needs to solve is justice.

13.9% think it is the economy, 13% the education system, and 5.4% poverty.

60.6% of the protesters are in the field due to "anxiety about the future," 52.9% due to "the government's anti-democratic practices," and 31.7% because "the current political system does not respond to their demands."

The rate of those who are in the field with the thought that the country's administration ignores them is 25%. The rate of those who say they are in the field due to the attitude towards the opposition in the person of Ekrem İmamoğlu was measured at 11%.
