Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu's resignation from the CHP and her move to the AKP continues to occupy the political agenda.

Speaking at the AKP's anniversary event, Çerçioğlu repeatedly emphasized being "under the auspices of our President" and stated the following:

"Mr. President, very esteemed First Lady, first of all, I promise once again that just as I have served Aydın, I will serve even more under the auspices of my President from now on!

If there are any allegations against me today, let them come forward and explain them. I have never been afraid of the judiciary or of being put on trial. My conscience is clear, my head is held high!

I do not find it appropriate to explain the problems I have experienced here in terms of political ethics. However, I will explain them one by one if necessary. I have only one concern: to serve my country and Aydın. From now on, I will continue to serve under the roof of the AK Party with you and under the auspices of my President."

Immediately after the transfer, Çerçioğlu, who stated that she "was not distant from the President," made striking remarks to Yavuz Donat, a columnist for the pro-government Sabah newspaper.

Stating that she waited for months after meeting with CHP leader Özgür Özel and that no one called her, Çerçioğlu noted the following:

"I started waiting... A few more letters/decisions came from Kuşadası... Always in the same direction... Contrary to regulations... There is rent-seeking... I rejected them... Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Council decision. I waited... I was patient... For months... The attacks began... Local media... So-called journalists... Insults... Ugly, immoral words... I cannot repeat them to you... It is very shameful."

Speaking about the tenders Aziz İhsan Aktaş received from the municipality and the bribery allegations, Çerçioğlu continued as follows:

"Lies... Lies... Lies... There is no such thing as bribery.

The person mentioned received a tender from us... Through normal channels... An open tender for everyone.

Then... Bribery allegations emerged... And the judicial process began.

The Aydın Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the Council of State issued a decision of non-prosecution... Exactly one year ago.

Applied zoning plan... 410 hectares... The size of 575 football fields... A revision in the 1/1000 scale implementation plan.

The Kuşadası Municipal Council had accepted it... Date 04.03.2024... Decision number 104.

The decision came to Aydın... On 13.06.2024... With number 173... We canceled it.

The reason for the cancellation... There is an increase in floors... There is an increase in floor area ratio (FAR).

Three parcels were removed from the health zone... Converted to residential/commercial zone.

I explained all of this to Mr. Özgür Özel.

There was an increase of 60 thousand square meters in the construction area... Completely contrary to regulations.

Çerçioğlu responded to Özel's claim that "she received a promise to save her husband's company if she switched to the AK Party" with the following words:
