New details have been reached regarding the fire disaster in Bolu Kartalkaya that claimed the lives of 78 people. The account given by an employee of the Grand Kartal Hotel, where the fire broke out, was chilling.
THE FIRE WAS INEVITABLE
Speaking on a live broadcast on CNN Türk, hotel employee Tuni Burhan said, "The staff already knew something was going to happen; they were joking about just trying to get through this season. The elevator was shut down because it was dangerous, but we continued to use it." Describing the moment of the fire, the hotel employee stated, "Everything was bright red. There was an explosion above us, and the flames grew within five minutes."
GAVE THE ORDER OF DEATH
Stating that the fire was not reported to the people on the instructions of hotel owner Halit Ergül, Burhan said, "The hotel manager gives an order, saying 'wake up the staff and do not tell anyone!' He sends part of the staff to the parking lot; Halit Ergül gave this order to the hotel manager Zeki Yılmaz. Everything in this hotel is already like this; a problem occurs and the staff solves it on their own," he said.
Burhan continued his words as follows:
"There were electric shocks everywhere in the hotel. You get shocked by the minibar fridges in the rooms. Flames come out of the sockets. Let me just say this: the hotel was already running by the grace of God. An inspection was carried out on December 12, and a label was stuck on the elevator. It was written on the elevator that 'It is dangerous and forbidden to ride this elevator.' We used that elevator until the day of the fire."
15 PEOPLE HAD BEEN ARRESTED
Within the scope of the investigation, 15 suspects, including the owner of the Grand Kartal Hotel, Halit Ergül, the company's general manager, Emir Aras, and the hotel manager, Zeki Yılmaz, who were previously taken into custody, were arrested, while 6 people were released under judicial control conditions.
