Storm topples trees in Alanya, hotel flooded in Manavgat: Citizens evacuated
Heavy rainfall and strong winds affecting the Serik, Manavgat, and Alanya districts of Antalya have caused flooding. 403 people were rescued through the successful intervention of emergency teams. Meanwhile, in the Kaş district, vacationers enjoyed the sea in sunny weather.
Heavy rainfall that began yesterday in the eastern districts of Antalya continued throughout the night.
Flooding occurred in greenhouses, agricultural lands, pomegranate and orange orchards, roads, and some businesses in the Serik, Manavgat, and Alanya districts. Roads with significant water accumulation were closed to traffic.
Shopkeepers who encountered water accumulation in their businesses in the morning hours began cleanup efforts.
Mehmet Topal, a pharmacy employee in Serik, said that when he arrived at his workplace in the morning, he saw that everything was underwater.
In Alanya, some trees were toppled by the impact of the rain and wind.
In the Akçaalan neighborhood of Serik, Yalçın (75), his daughter Filiz (54), and his son Ahmet Bodur (58), who were trapped in their single-story house, called the 112 Emergency Call Center to request assistance.
Police, fire department, and AFAD teams dispatched to the address worked to rescue the family. AFAD teams carried Yalçın and Filiz Bodur out through a window. Ahmet Bodur, who initially did not want to leave the house, was evacuated after the water receded and police persuaded him.
Filiz Bodur, who was trapped in the house, told reporters that water suddenly filled their home due to the heavy rain and hail.
Explaining that her husband also works at a hotel and could not come to help due to the rainfall, Bodur said, "We asked the teams for help, and they came immediately and rescued us. The inside of the house is full of water."
In the Gündoğdu neighborhood, the overflow of the Şarlayık Creek due to heavy rainfall in the morning hours caused flooding in the ground floor and pool area of a 5-star hotel.
Upon notification, AFAD, police, and fire department teams went to the region and evacuated 400 tourists from the hotel. The tourists were relocated to other hotels, and the hotel sustained material damage.
- Meanwhile, in Kaş, those who took advantage of the sunny weather went swimming
In the Kaş district, the rain that began in the morning hours gave way to sunny weather toward noon.
Some citizens and tourists chose to swim in the sea in the sunny weather, while others preferred to spend time in tea gardens.
Çağlayan İğdeli, who came to the district for a vacation, stated that the nearby Kaputaş Beach and the nature of the area are very beautiful and recommended that everyone come and see it.
