HAKİ KARER

He was killed on May 28, 1977, in Gaziantep as a result of an internal settling of scores between leftist groups. His death was symbolized by the PKK as the "first martyr." Abdullah Öcalan described Karer's death as a turning point in the organization's transition to armed struggle. In the PKK's rhetoric, Haki Karer continues to be commemorated as a "revolutionary martyr" of Turkish origin. Öcalan calls Karer his "secret soul."

MAZLUM DOĞAN

Mazlum Doğan is known as one of the first militant figures symbolized by the PKK. He was born in 1956 in the Mazgirt district of Tunceli. He joined the Kurdish political movement while he was studying at the Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences. He took part in the founding process of the PKK and became one of the first editors of the organization's publication, Serxwebûn.

Doğan, who was arrested in 1979, committed suicide by setting himself on fire in Diyarbakır Prison on March 21, 1982. This act was defined by the PKK as the "first spark" and was turned into a mythological narrative within the organization. Today, Mazlum Doğan is referred to in the PKK's propaganda language as the "sacrificial pioneer of the Kurdish people."

MAHSUM KORKMAZ

Mahsum Korkmaz became a symbol in the history of the organization as the leader of the group that carried out the first armed action of the terrorist organization PKK. He was born in 1956 in the Genç district of Bingöl. He was in the founding cadre of the PKK. Korkmaz, whose code name was "Agit," led the action carried out in the Eruh district of Siirt on August 15, 1984, which was recorded as the PKK's first armed massacre.

This action was accepted as the beginning of the organization's armed struggle process. He was killed in 1986 during the Turkish Armed Forces' operations in Northern Iraq. After his death, the so-called training academy of the PKK's so-called military structure, HPG, was named the "Mahsum Korkmaz Academy."

İBRAHİM ÇOBAN

İbrahim Çoban is a terrorist who operated as the so-called Dersim field commander of the terrorist organization PKK and used the code name "Atakan Mahir." He was born in 1974 in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. For over 25 years, he carried out bloody attacks in the PKK's mountain cadre.

Çoban was neutralized on August 11, 2018, in an air-supported operation conducted by security forces in the rural area of the Pülümür district of Tunceli.

According to the findings of security units, Çoban was the planner and executor of many terrorist acts. These acts include the martyrdom of six teachers in the Darıkent town of Tunceli's Mazgirt district in 1994, the martyrdom of two security guards in the Ulukale village of Tunceli's Çemişgezek district in 1999, the martyrdom of seven soldiers in the Sazak village of Tokat's Reşadiye district in 2009, and the martyrdom of Chief Public Prosecutor Murat Uzun in Tunceli's Ovacık district in 2012.

It also emerged that Çoban appeared in the documentary titled "Bakur," which was filmed by the PKK for propaganda purposes and caused controversy. This documentary was filmed during the solution process period.

Rıza Altun

Rıza Altun was a name who was among the so-called high-level executives of the terrorist organization PKK and had been carrying out the organization's ideological and diplomatic activities for many years. Born in 1959 in the Başkale district of Van, Altun joined the PKK in 1979. Altun, one of the names close to Abdullah Öcalan, took part in the organization's foreign structures starting from the 1990s.

Known for coordinating PKK activities in Europe, particularly in Germany, France, and Belgium, Altun also served as a member of the KCK Executive Council. Altun, who is on the wanted list of international security units, is one of the two terrorists announced to have died at the PKK's dissolution meeting. The other is Ali Haydar Kaytan.

Sakine Cansız

Sakine Cansız is a terrorist who was in the founding cadre of the PKK and is considered one of the pioneers of the organization's so-called women's structure. She was born in Tunceli in 1958. After meeting leftist movements in the 1970s, she established contact with Abdullah Öcalan and joined the PKK's founding process. Cansız, known within the organization by the code name "Sara," was touted as the PKK's first female militant.

After the 1980 coup, she was arrested and sent to Diyarbakır Prison. After being released from prison, she took part in the PKK's so-called European structure and the organization of the so-called women's branch, YJA-Star.

Sakine Cansız was killed on January 9, 2013, in Paris, the capital of France, as a result of an armed attack in an office along with PKK terrorists Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez. It was alleged that there might have been an internal settling of scores linked to intelligence behind the assassination. Her death was symbolized by the PKK.

GÜLNAZ KARATAŞ

Gülnaz Karataş, code-named Beritan, is a name symbolized among the PKK's female terrorists and referred to in the organization's ideological narrative as the "symbol of women's resistance." Born in Elazığ in 1971, Karataş joined the PKK in the early 1990s while she was a student at Istanbul University. She then moved to northern Iraq and took part in the organization's armed structure.

It was claimed that during a clash with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) forces in 1992, she refused to surrender and committed suicide by jumping off a cliff with her weapon. This event was touted by the PKK, which seeks to deceive young girls, as an example of "honorable resistance" and female warriorhood. The name Beritan was later frequently used in the PKK's women's structures and media propaganda.

Gülnaz Karataş's death became an important part of the "female martyrdom cult" created by the PKK to glorify its female cadres. The "Beritan" figure is frequently referenced in ideological training given to female terrorists within the PKK.

Zeynep Kınacı

Zeynep Kınacı is a murderer who went down in the history of the organization as the terrorist organization PKK's first female suicide bomber and is symbolized in ideological propaganda as the "pioneer of the sacrificial act." She was born in Malatya in 1972. She made contact with the PKK during her university education and joined the organization's women's structure shortly after.

Kınacı, who used the code name "Zîlan," targeted a military ceremony held in Tunceli on June 30, 1996. By detonating the bomb she had placed on herself, she caused the death of five soldiers along with herself and left many soldiers injured. This action was recorded in PKK history as the first female suicide bomber attack.

The organization defined Zeynep Kınacı's attack as the "peak of women's resistance" and turned her into a sanctified figure within the PKK's women's structure after her death. Kınacı, whose name is frequently mentioned in propaganda activities, continues to be referred to in the organization's ideology as the "symbol of sacrifice and non-surrender."

FATMA UYAR

Delal Amed is one of the militants who took part in the terrorist organization PKK's media and propaganda structure and was brought to the forefront within the organization with her female identity. Amed, whose real name was Fatma Uyar, operated in the PKK's so-called press and culture units for many years. She used her code name both to symbolize her organizational identity and to identify with Amed (Diyarbakır).

She was neutralized in 2015 during the Turkish Armed Forces' air operation against Northern Iraq. After her death, she was announced by PKK sources as a "press martyr" and symbolized as part of the women's struggle.

Delal Amed, who frequently appeared in the PKK's publications, became one of the figures used in the organization's women's propaganda. In the organization's own rhetoric, she was touted as the "representative of the spirit of struggle where the pen and the weapon unite."

ALİ HAYDAR KAYTAN

Ali Haydar Kaytan was one of the founders of the terrorist organization PKK and a name who played an important role in the organization's ideological structure. Born in Tunceli in 1958, Kaytan joined the PKK's founding process in the 1970s along with Abdullah Öcalan. Kaytan, who used the code name "Fuat," was among the organization's first armed cadres.

Kaytan, who went abroad after the 1980 military coup, took part in the PKK's political activities in Europe and the Middle East for many years. Later, he rose to membership in the KCK Executive Council, the organization's so-called highest decision-making body.

It was claimed that he was killed in an air operation conducted in Northern Iraq in 2021. However, this information was not confirmed by PKK sources for a long time. It was officially announced at the PKK's dissolution congress that Kaytan, known as one of the figures influential in the PKK's political line, had been killed.
