The 'efe' who 'ran' to the AKP made a fortune: Shares of Çerçioğlu's company hit the ceiling

Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, who has become the number one agenda item in Turkish politics in recent days, resigned from the CHP and joined the AKP following allegations regarding lawsuits and investigations against her.

In her speech at the AKP's 24th anniversary celebration, Çerçioğlu reacted to the criticisms directed at her and targeted the CHP.

Frequently emphasizing that she is "under the patronage of my President" in her speech, Çerçioğlu said the following:

"My dear President, very esteemed First Lady, first of all, I promise once again that just as I have served Aydın, I will serve even more under the patronage of my President from now on!

If there are any allegations against me today, let them come forward and explain them. I have never been afraid of the judiciary or being tried. My forehead is clear, my head is held high!

I do not find it appropriate to explain the problems I have experienced here in terms of political ethics. However, I will explain them one by one if necessary. My only concern is to serve my country and Aydın. From now on, I will continue to serve with you and under the patronage of my President under the roof of the AK Party."

Following the transition, the increase in Jantsa shares, in which she is a partner through her spouse, has sparked debate in the public eye.

When news broke on August 13 that Çerçioğlu would leave the CHP and join the AKP, the company's share value rose by approximately 6 percent on a daily basis, increasing from 22.32 liras to 23.68 liras.

The shares continued their rise after the resignation announcement and the pinning of the AKP badge. On August 14, Jantsa gained approximately 10 percent in value, closing the day at 25.84 liras. On August 15, the share price hit the ceiling, reaching 28.42 liras.

Journalist İbrahim Kahveci, who evaluated the issue, tagged Çerçioğlu in a post on his social media account and used the following expressions:

“The family of Özlem Çerçioğlu, whom they call the 'Fleeing Efe' (family company), has gained a fortune of 4 billion 270 million liras in the last 3 days with this 'whitewashing' move. Jantsa rose from 22.32 liras to 28.42 liras. Each 10 percent rise provides an increase of approximately 2 billion liras in wealth.”
