The number of districts in Istanbul is increasing: Even the neighborhood names have been determined

Claims regarding a district reorganization, which have been debated in Istanbul for a long time, have flared up again. It has been suggested that bringing together certain residential areas located in the north of the city to establish a new district named "Yenişehir" (New City) is on the agenda.

It is stated that if the plans are implemented, the number of districts in Istanbul, which is currently 39, will increase to 40.

According to the information put forward, the new district will be shaped to cover a wide line where Istanbul Airport is located.

It is noted that areas located around Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Bahçeşehir, and Hadımköy could be gathered under a new administrative structure.

The rapidly increasing population in the region in recent years, infrastructure investments developing around the airport, and the increase in transportation opportunities are cited among the factors supporting the idea of establishing a new district.

THE NAME OF THE DISTRICT IS ALREADY BEING DISCUSSED

It is reported that the name "Yenişehir" has been used in the preparation processes for a long time and that this name stands out in the planning. It is stated that with the establishment of the district, administrative boundaries will be reshaped, and some neighborhoods may be separated from existing districts and transferred to the new structure.

The region's large surface area and development potential are among the remarkable aspects of the new district plan.

15 NEIGHBORHOODS DETERMINED

It is alleged that a total of 15 neighborhoods have been selected for the district expected to be newly established. It is stated that the majority of these neighborhoods are located around Arnavutköy. The neighborhoods whose names were announced in the first stage were listed as follows:

Boyalık

Yassıören

Dursunköy

Sazlıbosna

Şamlar

Baklalı

Çilingir

Hacımaşlı

It is reported that the rest of the list is in the planning file, but it has not been shared in its entirety without an official statement.
