The poll shaking the People's Alliance: Harsh criticisms of MHP in AKP corridors
It has been claimed that in the latest poll by Sonar Research, the MHP's vote share has declined to the 4 percent level.
According to a report by Cumhuriyet, this picture is being interpreted as a 'serious risk' within the AKP camp.
While it is alleged that comments regarding the MHP have hardened in AKP backrooms over the last 2 weeks, it is suggested that various scenarios regarding the future of the alliance are being put on the table.
It is claimed that in closed-door meetings, some AKP figures have made comments such as, "The MHP no longer brings in votes; on the contrary, it causes us to lose them. The costs in the economy are being attributed to us, while the controversies in security and the judiciary are alienating people from the MHP. The balance has been disrupted."
'WE ARE PRODUCING CRISES WITH THE MHP, NOT SOLUTIONS'
It is suggested that a group of party officials in the AKP have conveyed to President Erdoğan that the alliance is deadlocked at both the management and discourse levels. It is stated that the criticisms within the party are concentrated under two headings:
"Rising grassroots reaction to the 'opening' process,
The MHP cornering the AKP on judiciary, constitutional, and bureaucratic policies."
Another AKP executive is alleged to have assessed to their close circle, "We cannot go to an election with these numbers. We are losing more votes because of the MHP."
According to information reflecting from AKP backrooms, the view emerging at the Palace is that the MHP's loss of votes has now become a structural problem and that election plans must therefore be reconsidered. It is reported that some advisors have presented proposals to Erdoğan centered around these three options:
– Expanding the alliance: Increasing communication with new actors in the right-wing bloc to broaden the narrowing voter base.
– Loose alliance model: Maintaining the official partnership with the MHP while turning toward more flexible cooperation in electoral districts.
– Seeking new partners: Reducing the influence of the MHP, which is thought to be narrowing the space in the center-right, and establishing contact with different parties.
'THE ALLIANCE IS SHAKING, ERDOĞAN IS SEEKING A NEW ROADMAP'
Political commentators are of the opinion that the sharp decline seen in MHP votes has created a "break that is difficult to reverse" in the alliance. It is claimed that Erdoğan may accelerate steps to restructure his alliance strategy in the coming period.
The prevailing assessment in Ankara backrooms is that the vote loss in the MHP is not a one-poll situation. It is stated that some party officials have reported to Erdoğan that "it is risky to go to an election with this arithmetic," as the MHP's decline has pulled the total vote of the People's Alliance below 40 percent.
