Journalist İsmail Küçükkaya made an important statement following his interview with CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.

Küçükkaya stated that after the broadcast he conducted with Özgür Özel in Ankara three weeks ago, they chatted in his office at the invitation of the CHP leader, and he expressed the following:

"He said to me there: 'I will work with all my might for an early election.' He showed me the Constitution. He said: 'I will use all my authority,' and added, 'You will see, they won't be able to hold out. There will be an election in 2025, or 2026 at the latest.'"

Stating that Özel also plans "surprise moves" against "resistance to an early election," Küçükkaya conveyed the CHP leader's striking words on this point:

"'If,' he said, 'they resist, I have surprise moves.'"

Küçükkaya stated that after these words, he questioned the matter and they understood that the plan was a "by-election" formula.

Küçükkaya reported that this move was also written about by Abdülkadir Selvi.

According to what Küçükkaya conveyed from Selvi's article, the CHP plans to increase the total number of vacancies to 30 by having 23 more deputies resign in addition to the 7 vacant seats in Parliament.

According to the Constitution, a by-election becomes mandatory when a 5 percent vacancy occurs in the 600-seat Parliament.

Küçükkaya also expressed the following regarding the government's response to this surprise move:

But Abdülkadir Selvi says: "There are some constitutional requirements for this plan to be implemented. The resignations of these deputies must be accepted," he says. In other words, he says the ruling wing would not accept these resignations. But we say that if they don't accept them, they could end up in an even more difficult situation.
