This time he raised his voice for arrested university students: Another highly talked-about statement from Mahmut Tanal
At least 301 young people, who were detained and arrested during protests following the IMM operations, spent the Ramadan Feast in prison. CHP Şanlıurfa MP Mahmut Tanal raised his voice for the imprisoned students, reacting by saying, "An imprisoned student is a disgrace to justice!"
The protests that began with the detention of individuals, including Ekrem İmamoğlu, during the dawn operation conducted against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) on March 19, had caused a great stir in the country. While hundreds of people were detained during the demonstrations held in front of Saraçhane, METU (ODTÜ), Istanbul University, and the Çağlayan Courthouse, at least 301 students were arrested and sent to prison.
The strongest reaction for the arrested young people, who spent the holiday away from their families and loved ones, came from CHP Şanlıurfa MP Mahmut Tanal. Tanal, who has been struggling both on the streets and in front of police stations since the detention process began, described the students' imprisonment as a "disgrace to justice" in a post on his social media account.
ARRESTED YOUNG PEOPLE SPENT THE HOLIDAY IN PRISON
During the protests that started after Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained, there were harsh police interventions, and many students were taken into custody. As police operations continued, house raids increased, and hundreds of students were arrested on various charges and sent to prison.
Students at many universities, especially Istanbul University and METU, organized demonstrations to support their arrested friends. However, these demonstrations, which were met with police intervention, also led to new detentions.
MAHMUT TANAL CONTINUES HIS STRUGGLE
CHP Şanlıurfa MP Mahmut Tanal has frequently shown that he stands with the arrested students throughout the process. Tanal, who plays an active role in protest areas, also continues to keep the issue on the agenda with his social media posts.
In a statement he made during the Ramadan Feast, Tanal emphasized that Turkey is the country with the highest number of arrested students in the world, criticizing the justice system and saying, "Justice does not imprison students!"
Adding a video to his post, Tanal reacted to the arrests by repeatedly saying "Justice does not imprison students!" in his characteristic style, without pausing for breath.
"AN ARRESTED STUDENT IS A DISGRACE TO JUSTICE!"
Mahmut Tanal used the following expressions in his post:
"An arrested student is a disgrace to justice! Turkey is the country in the world with the highest number of arrested students during the Ramadan Feast. We do not accept this shame!"
