Threat to Özgür Özel from pro-government Yeni Akit: 'You will end up like Selo'

The reactionary newspaper Yeni Akit, known for its proximity to the AKP, drew attention with its headline targeting CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. The newspaper, which ran the headline "Those who create chaos will end up like Selo," characterized the CHP as a "nest of intrigue."

The report claimed that there was a backlash from politicians against Özel's call for street protests.

The report stated, "They reminded him of the fate of Selahattin Demirtaş, who caused people's deaths by inciting the public to take to the streets."

WHAT DID ÖZEL SAY?

In an interview with the British-based newspaper Financial Times, CHP leader Özgür Özel criticized President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Stating that Erdoğan is trying to establish a Russian-style single-party system, Özel said that the CHP is the last obstacle to this.

"THE ONLY OPTION IS TO RESIST"

Özel described the court ruling regarding his party's Istanbul Provincial Presidency as a "coup against the future ruling party."

The CHP leader used the following expressions:

"They are trying to seize the winner of the last elections, the founding party of the Republic of Turkey, and the party leading in all polls. We are facing an authoritarian government. The only option is to resist. If the CHP falls, Turkey falls."

Özel also stated that they are preparing against the increasing pressure. Expressing the CHP's determination to fight, he said, "We have different plans, including peaceful actions that could bring life to a standstill."
