Veiled threat to Turkey from Trump's right-hand man

Recent developments in Syria have been reflected in the attitudes of actors in the region. According to information obtained from written and visual sources, it is observed that the SDF, the Syrian branch of the terrorist organization PKK/YPG, is dispatching armed militants to different parts of Syria and complicating the current process in the region.

The Ministry of National Defense, on the other hand, is signaling that they could join an operation against the SDF with military support if an official request is received from Syria.

On the US side, statements regarding these developments were not long in coming. Republican Lindsey Graham, known for his closeness to US President Donald Trump and a name who has made a name for himself for years with his anti-Ankara statements, is back on the agenda.

In two consecutive posts on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account, Graham stated that they would not accept an attack on his 'Kurdish allies,' whom he argued were effective against ISIS in northern Syria, and used the following expressions:

'I will neither tolerate nor accept a brazen attack on our Kurdish allies. I am calling on the Syrian government and Turkey: make a wise choice.'

In another social media post at midnight, Graham expressed his growing concern over a possible Turkish-Syrian cooperation in Syria. Pointing out that ISIS prisoners are under the control of the SDF, Graham emphasized that the return of these individuals to the battlefield poses a major risk to America's national security.

'The Kurds have been our greatest partner in the permanent defeat of ISIS in Syria. I am increasingly concerned that the new Syrian government will form an alliance with Turkey against the Kurds. Furthermore, the control of around 9 thousand prisoners consisting of dangerous elements of ISIS is also in their hands. It is of vital importance to us that these prisoners are not released.

I support giving the new Syrian government a fair chance; however, if Turkish-backed Syrian forces take action against the Kurds, the dynamics in the region could change fundamentally.

I believe there will be strong and comprehensive bipartisan support in the US Congress to oppose such a step. If it is thought at this stage that I or other members of Congress would not be uncomfortable with ISIS prisoners being guarded by the Syrian army or Turkish elements instead of the Kurds, that would be a major misconception. Make your choice wisely.'
