When will it snow in Istanbul? Meteorology gives a date

According to meteorological experts' forecasts, snowfall is expected in Istanbul on January 5 and January 9-10. While this situation creates excitement, especially for those who love the winter season, it is also emphasized that one should be prepared for cold weather conditions.

WHEN WILL IT SNOW IN ISTANBUL?

Ahmet Köse, 2nd President of the Chamber of Meteorological Engineers, made striking statements regarding the weather in Istanbul and across Turkey. Köse stated that approximately 15 days of snowfall will be seen in Istanbul from mid-January to the end of February.

In his statement, Köse said that no rain is expected in the first week of January, but a cold air wave from the Balkans will be effective starting from January 7. According to Köse's forecast, Istanbul will witness heavy snowfall during this period.

COUNTDOWN FOR THE FIRST SNOW IN ISTANBUL

Meteorology Consultant Orhan Şen provided important information regarding weather forecasts in Istanbul.

Şen stated that snowfall coming from the Thrace region is expected for Istanbul starting from January 5, and that the snowfall could continue with a new system covering Istanbul on January 9-10.

“We do not expect rain in Istanbul right now. The weather will be overcast, but light precipitation may be seen in some northern districts. Snowfall will come onto the agenda as of next week,” said Şen, noting that temperatures are hovering at average levels but may increase towards the weekend.

WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE IN JANUARY?

Köse stated, “We expect generally rainy weather in January this year. With the drop in temperatures, snowfall will be effective in the high parts of Marmara, in Anatolia, and in the inner regions of the Aegean.”

Şen, on the other hand, predicted that snowfall will be effective across Turkey during the semester break, stating that sleet and snowfall will continue, especially in Central Anatolia, the inner parts of the Black Sea, and the high parts of Marmara.
