Statement on Eurofighter from German minister

German official Johann Wadephul met with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during his contacts in Ankara. Speaking to NTV following the meeting, Wadephul made significant assessments regarding Turkey's procurement process for Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.

Wadephul stated that Germany views Turkey as a reliable NATO ally and expressed a positive approach toward the Eurofighter sale. He emphasized that Greece, which has acted against Turkey within the scope of Security Assistance for Europe (SAFE) aid, is also a part of this process.

Wadephul noted that negotiations between Turkey and the companies are ongoing and that they are optimistic about the delivery process. "We must defend our alliance; we view this shipment positively, especially considering Russia's current aggressive stance," he said.

Minister Wadephul indicated that the delivery of Eurofighters to Turkey could take place within this year. "I think this process will be completed in a short time. Eurofighters are a model that has been produced for a long time, and we know that the capacity has been expanded. However, the final decisions will be made by the companies, and the agreement needs to be signed," he stated.
