Gezeravcı meets with students in Diyarbakır

Turkey's first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı met with students from the Diyarbakır Abdullah Tivnikli Project Anatolian Imam Hatip High School via a live connection from the International Space Station. During the meeting, Gezeravcı chatted with the students and answered their curious questions.

"YOUR SCHOOL LESSONS ARE VERY IMPORTANT"

Turkey's first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı gave a message to students dreaming of becoming astronauts, stating, "The missions we have started today are the clearest sign of the professions you may pursue in the future. This path has now been opened in our country, in our homeland. Do not have any worries. If you have set your goal to become an astronaut, your lessons at school right now are very important."

While answering questions from students in Diyarbakır from the International Space Station (ISS), Gezeravcı noted that the ISS orbits the Earth every 90 minutes, that observing the sun is difficult, that the atmosphere inside the ISS filters the rays, and that stars appear clearer because there is no outer atmosphere.

Expressing that there is a long way to go to reach the Moon but that they can see the Moon more closely, Gezeravcı said that larger equipment and complex systems would be needed to see black holes. He also noted that the ISS allows for clear visibility by reflecting the sun as it passes over the Earth, and that this can be tracked via the internet.

Addressing those who have set the goal of becoming an astronaut, Gezeravcı said, "May God clear your path and bring you good fortune. To become an astronaut, first focus on your present. If you study well in your current class, the obstacles in front of your goal of becoming an astronaut will be removed."

Stating that there are 11 people on the ISS and that each works according to their own schedule, Gezeravcı said that he does not yet have any information about aliens, but that he would share it upon his return if he learns anything.
