Giant record in renewable energy: Domestic share reaches 71.7 percent
The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has announced the data for April 2026. While Turkey's total installed electricity capacity has exceeded 125 thousand megawatts, renewable sources account for 62.5 percent of this capacity, and domestic sources account for 71.7 percent.
The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has shared the latest figures regarding the share of domestic and renewable sources in Turkey's energy portfolio. In a statement made via the ministry's social media accounts, it was emphasized that the weight of domestic resources in energy supply security is increasing day by day.
As of April 2026, Turkey's total installed electricity capacity reached 125 thousand 410 megawatts, leaving another historic threshold behind. While the share of renewable energy within this capacity was recorded at 62.5 percent, the share of domestic resources in the total installed power rose to the level of 71.7 percent.
GIANT CONTRIBUTION OF 41 THOUSAND MEGAWATTS FROM WIND AND SOLAR
In the details of the report, attention was drawn to the critical role of wind and solar energy within the total installed power. It was stated that 41 thousand 844 megawatts, corresponding to approximately one-third of the total capacity, is provided solely by wind and solar.
In its assessment regarding its strategic goals, the ministry included the statement, "We are moving forward with determination toward the goal of a fully independent Turkey in energy by utilizing our domestic and renewable resources at the highest level."
