Gökçek family registered 300 million lira villa with pool as 'adobe village house'

Licensing issues have emerged regarding a villa in the Narlıdere district of İzmir that belongs to the wife of Ahmet Gökçek, son of former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek. According to a report by Sözcü, the two-story structure with a pool, valued at approximately 300 million lira, is listed in official records as an adobe village house.

Located on block 8, parcel 153 in the Sahilevleri neighborhood of Narlıdere, the structure was built on a 1,751-square-meter plot and features two stories, a swimming pool, and a closed garage. It was determined that the structure has no construction permit and was built illegally.

Following a municipal committee decision dated March 26, 2019, the property owners were given one month to bring the mansion into compliance with regulations. When the necessary actions were not taken by the end of that period, a demolition order was issued on August 8, 2019. However, it was learned that this order has not been implemented despite five years having passed.

It was reported that an administrative fine imposed for the structure was paid on January 16, 2024. Officials stated that paying the fine does not nullify the demolition order. The structure, which is located in a natural protected area, is reportedly awaiting its turn for demolition at the Directorate of Science Affairs.

On the other hand, it was stated that the parcel owners applied for a house numbering registration, but the Narlıdere Municipality rejected this request because the structure is illegal. Water and electricity subscriptions could not be opened for the building, which has no address registration at the municipality.

It was noted that the Gökçek family obtained a building registration certificate under the Zoning Law, but this certificate does not provide legal protection for illegal structures. Information was also shared that the Building Registration Certificate was canceled by the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization on July 30, 2019.
