Government in Azerbaijan resigns as required by law

In Azerbaijan, the government has resigned in accordance with national law following the swearing-in of re-elected President Ilham Aliyev.

After Aliyev won the presidential election held on February 7 with 92.12 percent of the vote and officially took office today by taking the oath, the government submitted its resignation to the President.

The confirmation of the new prime minister to be appointed by President Aliyev will be debated in the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan within a maximum of 2 weeks. Once the new prime minister is appointed, the other members of the cabinet will also be determined by President Aliyev.

Azerbaijanis went to the polls on February 7 to elect the new president who will lead the country for 7 years.

In the election where 7 candidates competed, incumbent President Aliyev was elected president for the fifth time, receiving 92.12 percent of the votes.

Aliyev officially took office today after taking the oath in the Milli Majlis.
