Grandmother arrested: She had pushed her granddaughter from the balcony

The incident occurred on September 6 at approximately 16:00 in the Yeşildere neighborhood of Ordu's Korgan district. Step-grandmother Şerefe Çokyaşar pushed her granddaughter Hanife Çokyaşar from the balcony of the house. Hearing the child's cries, the mother, Zeynep Çokyaşar, went outside to find her baby on the ground and immediately called 112. Medical teams transported Hanife Çokyaşar to the hospital by ambulance. It was reported that the child is in good health.

Upon reviewing the home's security camera footage, mother Zeynep Çokyaşar saw that her daughter had been pushed by the step-grandmother, Şerefe Çokyaşar. Following the family's report, gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene, and Şerefe Çokyaşar was taken into custody. After the investigation, Şerefe Çokyaşar was arrested by the court on September 7 on charges of 'attempted murder'.

'STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE'

Regarding the matter, the Ordu Governor's Office confirmed that grandmother Şerefe Çokyaşar had been arrested and issued the following statement:

"The incident, which was reflected in the public eye via social media, took place on Friday, 06.09.2024, at approximately 16:00. Hanife, the child of the couple Muammer and Zeynep Çokyaşar, who had come to their father's house to harvest hazelnuts, was taken by her parents to Korgan State Hospital and subsequently to Fatsa State Hospital for further examination after her step-grandmother, Şerefe Çokyaşar, told the family that the child had fallen from the balcony. The victim of the incident, Hanife Çokyaşar, was discharged on the same day following treatment at Fatsa State Hospital. Upon learning of the incident, the Korgan Gendarmerie Command conducted an investigation and reviewed security camera footage, which revealed that the victim, Hanife Çokyaşar, had been intentionally and deliberately pushed from the balcony by her step-grandmother, Şerefe Çokyaşar. With the situation coming to light, step-grandmother Şerefe Çokyaşar was taken into custody and proceedings were initiated against her. The day after the incident, judicial proceedings were initiated against the step-grandmother by the Korgan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of 'attempted murder', and step-grandmother Şerefe Çokyaşar was arrested and sent to prison."
