Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis calls emergency meeting following Aegean earthquakes

It has been learned that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has decided to hold an emergency meeting following the earthquakes that occurred in the Aegean Sea.

"WE ARE ON ALERT"

The emergency meeting led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis concluded after 2 hours following the successive earthquakes on the Greek tourist island of Santorini. A statement was made after the meeting, which included Greek Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias, Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff General Dimitris Houpis, and professors Efthymios Lekkas and Kostas Papazachos from the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (OASP). Greek Minister Vassilis Kikilias stated that the measures taken following the earthquakes were preventive in nature, saying, "We are on alert."

Addressing the public, Kikilias said, "I ask our citizens to listen to the precautions of the experts and to comply with them."

On the other hand, in addition to the measures, 25 Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK) personnel were dispatched to the island of Santorini.

SCHOOLS HAD BEEN CLOSED

The Greek Ministry of Civil Protection had announced that the tremors were not linked to volcanic activity. Following more than 200 earthquakes in the last 48 hours off the coast of Santorini, education in schools in Santorini and Amorgos was suspended for tomorrow, and the public was warned to stay away from the ports of Ammoudi and Fira and not to gather in enclosed spaces.
