Gülistan Doku investigation: New development regarding Tuncay Sonel in custody

Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the murder of Gülistan Doku, 10 out of 13 suspects detained in the first wave have been arrested.

Mustafa Türkay Sonel was arrested on charges of "qualified sexual assault" and "intentional killing," Erdoğan Elaldı for "intentional killing," Ferhat Güven for "extortion," Zeinal Abakarov, Cemile Yücer, Engin Yücer, Celal Altaş, Nurşen Arıkan, and Şükrü Eroğlu for "concealing, altering, and destroying evidence of a crime," and Gökhan Ertok for "illegally obtaining personal data" and "concealing, altering, and destroying evidence of a crime."

The other suspects, Süleyman Önal, Savaş Gültürk, and Uğurcan Açıkgöz, were released under judicial control measures.

DETENTION PERIOD FOR GOVERNOR SONEL EXTENDED

It has been reported that the detention period for the former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, who was taken into custody in Elazığ during the second wave of the investigation, has been extended. While proceedings for Sonel continue at the Erzurum Provincial Police Department, it was learned that the proceedings for the former Tunceli State Hospital Chief Physician Op. Dr. Çağdaş Özdemir, who was taken into custody in Bursa, are ongoing at the Tunceli Provincial Gendarmerie Command.

The Doku family's lawyer, Ali Çimen, stated, "We will request that all officials whose names appear in the records of the Gülistan Doku file, who participated in the searches, or who issued instructions—excluding the period of our Chief Prosecutor Ebru—be included in the Tuncay Sonel investigation as witnesses. This request aims to contribute to the determination of the perpetrator's actions, and we will evaluate the legal status of these individuals based on the outcome."

In accordance with the provision in Article 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code, since the authority to investigate the personal crimes of governors belongs to the chief public prosecutor's office where the relevant regional court of justice is located, the proceedings regarding Sonel are being carried out in Erzurum.
