The secret of the white BMW in the Gülistan Doku investigation is being solved! Was it a gift to the governor?
While 11 people have been arrested in the investigation into the disappearance of university student Gülistan Doku, who has been missing in Tunceli for over 6 years, a striking claim has emerged in the file. It is alleged that the white BMW, which was reportedly used in the incident, was gifted to the governor by a Tunceli-based businessperson.
In the investigation into the disappearance of university student Gülistan Doku, who has not been heard from in Tunceli since January 5, 2020, the total number of detainees has risen to 11 following the arrest of Çağdaş Özdemir, the chief physician of the hospital where camera records were found to have been deleted, in addition to 10 others, including the son and bodyguard of the then-Tunceli Governor.
As a "confession video" has entered the investigation file, the statements of some detainees have also been obtained.
WHITE VEHICLE TRAIL COMES TO THE FORE IN THE INVESTIGATION
According to the article by Tolga Şardan, who reported the latest developments in his column on T24, important information regarding the white vehicle, one of the most critical clues in the incident, was conveyed to Tunceli Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu by an informant in the region.
It was stated that the information included the license plate of the white BMW, which could not be traced for a long time. Upon this, it was stated that Tekbıyıkoğlu gave instructions to the Tunceli Police Department and an investigation was launched based on the license plate.
A special team established within the Tunceli Police Intelligence Branch began to track the white BMW.
VEHICLE MOVEMENTS DETECTED THROUGH RECORDS
In the work carried out, it was determined that the vehicle was taken out of the city on January 7, 2020, during the investigation process launched after Doku's disappearance, and was brought back to Tunceli about a week later.
It was reported that these findings were made possible thanks to camera footage and HTS records that were previously stated to be unavailable.
HOSPITAL RECORDS FOUND TO HAVE BEEN DELETED
In the research conducted by the special team, it was also determined that some records at the Tunceli State Hospital regarding Gülistan Doku had been deleted. It was reported that a portion of the records, which were previously said to be "non-existent," had been recovered.
STRIKING CLAIM REGARDING THE VEHICLE
The article also included a striking claim regarding the white BMW, which is considered to have been used in the incident.
It was alleged that the vehicle was gifted to the governor by a Tunceli-based businessperson.
The article by Şardan titled "The clue that could not be reached for three years, how was it found three years later; who gifted the white BMW in which Gülistan Doku was lost?" is as follows:
“The judicial investigation regarding Gülistan Doku, who went missing in Tunceli on January 5, 2020, and whose body or living self has not been reached in the 6 years that have passed, has been on the agenda for a week.
Important developments have occurred and are still occurring. With the detentions and arrests made, the “organization” that resulted in Doku’s disappearance is slowly coming to light.
It would not be wrong to say that there was a two-stage process in Doku’s disappearance. The first is the moments just before Doku disappeared and her being made to disappear. The most important name in this stage is Mustafa Türkay Sonel, the son of the then-Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, who was arrested over the weekend, and his close friend Umut Altaş, who lives in the USA. According to the allegations, the person who “murdered” Doku is the governor’s son, Mustafa Türkay Sonel, himself.
The second stage is the process of “cleaning up” after the incident occurred. The leading role in this stage, of course, belongs to the then-Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, who is alleged to have paved the way for the file to be closed by drawing power from the office given by the state. According to the allegation, there are undoubtedly “sidekicks” who supported the governor, who wanted to save his son from the incident. Like Çağdaş Özdemir, who was made Provincial Health Director while he was the hospital chief physician. It is also likely that names working in different public institutions, primarily the police, will be added to the “sidekicks” who supported the closing of the file in the coming days.
The position of the governor’s bodyguard, police officer Şükrü Ergül, is different. It is alleged that Ergül, who took part in both stages, went to the scene after the murder and was with Mustafa Türkay Sonel. In addition, it has been determined that he brought the SIM card of the mobile phone belonging to Gülistan Doku, obtained from the Doku family, to his colleague Gökhan Ertok, an IT expert he knew beforehand, and organized the deletion of the data in exchange for money. In short, he is the “crypto” of the process of Doku’s disappearance.
The person who “revitalized” the file was Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor Ebru Cansu herself. The sensitivity of Chief Prosecutor Cansu, who switched to the prosecutor’s office after working as a lawyer for a period, to the file will help bring what happened to light.
LICENSE PLATE INFORMATION FROM AN INFORMANT
The table is summarized as such.
So, how was the Doku investigation, which was “put on ice” by the “organization,” reopened and brought to its current state?
First of all, the attitude of the high-level public administrators recently assigned to the city, their approach to the public, and the “healthy public administration performance” they showed in solving problems were the most important cornerstones of the process.
In addition to Chief Prosecutor Cansu, who is conducting the judicial investigation, the fact that the then-Tunceli Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu and Tunceli Police Chief Hakan Duman were also fathers of “daughters” enabled them to “empathize” with the sensitivity and demands of the Doku family.
The new roadmap created by both Governor Tekbıyıkoğlu and Duman after their meetings with the family also eased the hand of Chief Prosecutor Cansu. Important information began to flow slowly into the investigation file, which had been kept “empty” until now.
According to the information I obtained, the most important information regarding the white vehicle, which is the critical clue of the incident, reached Governor Tekbıyıkoğlu from an informant in the region.
The information received included the license plate of the white BMW, which had “evaporated” until that day. Upon the information, Tekbıyıkoğlu gave instructions to the Tunceli Police Department and started work on the license plate.
The special team established in the Tunceli Police Intelligence Branch went after the white BMW. The special team in the intelligence branch revealed in a short time that the vehicle was taken out of the city on January 7, 2020, the day the judicial investigation into Doku’s disappearance was launched, and was brought to the city a week later.
So how were these findings made? Of course, from the camera footage that was previously recorded as “not found” or “could not be detected”! And from the HTS records that were studied in detail!
It was again determined by the special police team that the records at the Tunceli State Hospital regarding Gülistan Doku were deleted.
In the police’s research, a portion of the records that were previously said to be “non-existent” or “deleted” were found by the special team. Despite the long time that had passed and the “limited” backups made, reaching the old records changed the course of the investigation.
At this point, I must open a parenthesis. It was the special team in the Tunceli Police Intelligence Branch that made the findings in the file reopened in 2023. So, why didn’t the Police Intelligence intervene during the days the incident occurred? If they did, why couldn’t these findings be made?
It seems that not reaching Doku’s body in the search carried out after emptying the dam was considered sufficient!
To tell the truth, reaching this information is very easy for Police Intelligence. In fact, reaching it 3 years after the incident is proof of this. Why didn’t the police administrators on duty in Tunceli during the January 2020 period, when the incident occurred, intervene? Let’s say Tunceli did not do the work, then why did the Police Intelligence Department in Ankara stay out of the subject?
Why didn’t the then-Minister of Interior, who bragged to journalists about identifying people from photos with special software he installed on his mobile phone, give the instruction to reach the data with the systems used by Police Intelligence?
IS THE WHITE BMW A GIFT?
Who was the Minister of Interior at the time? Süleyman Soylu.
Who was the General Director of Security at the time? Mehmet Aktaş, who was the Deputy Minister of Interior until recently.
Who was the Head of Police Intelligence at the time? Sabit Akın Zaimoğlu, who is still the Antalya Police Chief and whose name is currently reflected in the public as the future Ankara Police Chief.
Who was the Tunceli Police Chief at the time? Yılmaz Delen, who is currently the Yalova Police Chief.
These four will be on the agenda until the file reaches a conclusion.
Let me close the parenthesis without commenting!
There is also an important claim regarding the fate of the white BMW, which is understood to have been used in the incident; it is alleged that the vehicle was gifted to the governor by a Tunceli-based businessperson.
Another common claim that has come to the agenda in the city is that Sonel is the owner of a hotel in Adana.
At this stage, I think that the inspectors assigned by Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi to Governor Sonel could pave the way for reaching new information by looking at the governorship tenders signed by Sonel, as well as the vehicle. The inspector investigation should not be limited only to the disappearance of Gülistan Doku.
With the reaching of important findings in the research initiated after the family of Gülistan Doku, who entered the state’s records as missing, visited Governor Tekbıyıkoğlu and Police Chief Duman, the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office stepped in this time. Chief Prosecutor Ebru Cansu personally took the file under follow-up.
Let me give a small anecdote; as it will be remembered, Governor Tekbıyıkoğlu was removed from the Tunceli Governorship and pulled to the center due to an approach regarding the “solution process.” Chief Prosecutor Cansu, who attended the ceremony during the governor’s farewell, promised Tekbıyıkoğlu that she would “reach a conclusion in the file.” At the point reached today, the Chief Prosecutor kept her promise.
A “FOUL-MOUTHED” PUBLIC ADMINISTRATOR!
As a journalist who closely follows many similar events, I wondered why the public officials in what happened in Tunceli acted so “recklessly.”
After all, Tunceli is a relatively small city. A social environment where almost everyone knows each other.
Could the managers of other public institutions involved in the “organization” within the framework of a suspicious incident in which the governor’s son’s name was involved not have thought that they would be held accountable one day?
When I researched, I reached the information that Governor Sonel had a “different” management style. The governor’s difference was in his rhetoric. His communication with his subordinates was problematic. Those who worked with him agree that the governor was “foul-mouthed” and constantly adopted a “profane” style of address.
He is also known for “spreading fear” among his subordinates. It is stated that Governor Sonel served with a dominant character and an approach that intimidated his employees.
WHY IS THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE WORKING WITH THE GENDARMERIE?
Meanwhile, another topic is “why the gendarmerie?” regarding the judicial law enforcement unit working on the file.
The Tunceli Police was the one that actually worked on the Gülistan Doku file from the beginning. The police collected the evidence.
However, surprisingly, those who are currently working with the prosecutor’s office on the file are not the police, but the gendarmerie.
The prosecutor’s office is conducting the investigation through the Tunceli Provincial Gendarmerie Command. It must be a “bureaucratic coincidence” that this change took place after the removal of the then-Tunceli Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu and Tunceli Police Chief Hakan Duman, who ensured that the process reached a certain stage by meeting with the Doku family!
