Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Council grants honorary citizenship certificate to Volkan Demirel
Technical Director Volkan Demirel, who became etched in memory for his tears following the destruction in Hatay during the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, has been awarded an honorary citizenship certificate. Demirel received the certificate from Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş.
Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes caused massive destruction in Hatay, where thousands of people lost their lives. The earthquakes led to unforgettable scenes. One of the most memorable moments from the earthquakes was when Hatayspor Technical Director Volkan Demirel shed tears while pleading for help.
The Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Council, during its regular March meeting, unanimously decided to grant an honorary citizenship certificate to the successful coach.
Volkan Demirel received his citizenship certificate from Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş.
Mayor Savaş stated in a post on social media: “Volkan Demirel is now a citizen of Hatay. We have declared our Hatayspor Technical Director Volkan Demirel, who has always been by our side since the February 6 earthquakes, an 'Honorary Citizen' with the proposal we submitted to our municipal council, which was accepted. I thank dear Volkan Demirel, to whom I am happy to present this honorary title and certificate, which is very valuable to us, on behalf of all the people of Hatay.”
