He attacked the woman he was obsessed with using a chemical substance; his sentence has been announced

In the incident that took place in the Merkez neighborhood of Avcılar on October 5, 2021, Mehmet Yıldız (31) had threatened Yasemin Uzunçelebi (43), whom he was obsessively in love with, after his advances were rejected. He later secretly entered the woman's home during the night, poured a chemical substance on her, and fled.

It was determined that the woman, who was rushed to the hospital, had suffered burns so severe that her face and parts of her body had melted down to the bone, and she had lost the use of her facial organs. 

Uzunçelebi was discharged after 5 months of intensive care treatment as there was no further medical treatment available at the hospital and has continued her life, while the verdict in the trial of the defendant Mehmet Yıldız has been announced.

The detained defendant Mehmet Yıldız was present at the hearing held at the Küçükçekmece 2nd High Criminal Court, and the lawyers for both parties also attended. During the hearing, the public prosecutor stated that he reiterated the opinion he had presented in the previous session.

When asked for his final statement, the defendant Mehmet Yıldız said, “I rescued the victim from the swamp. I was regularly sending her large amounts of money, such as 40-50 thousand. I saw inappropriate photos of the victim taken with someone else. When I asked the victim, she said she had no money left and that she was with the person she took the photo with. She stood up and threw a lighter at me, she attacked me.

I went out of the bedroom to get the bowl that was standing under the combi boiler. The bowl had been there for a very long time. I didn't know what was inside it. The victim was following me and attacking me.

Announcing its verdict after the defendant's final words, the court sentenced Mehmet Yıldız to 20 years in prison for the crime of “attempted murder with monstrous feeling or by causing torment.” The court did not apply any reduction in the sentence as it did not form a positive opinion that the defendant was remorseful for the crime.

FROM THE INDICTMENT

In the indictment prepared by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that the defendant Mehmet Yıldız was the boyfriend of Yasemin Uzunçelebi and that he had thrown a corrosive and flammable chemical substance at the victim woman with a monstrous feeling for the purpose of killing her on the date of the incident.

The indictment, which noted that Uzunçelebi suffered many burns on her body that posed a life-threatening risk following the chemical attack, stated that “the victim was in intensive care with a life-threatening condition as a result of the aforementioned act and could not be questioned.”

A prison sentence of 13 to 20 years had been requested for Yıldız for the crime of ‘attempted intentional murder with monstrous feeling by causing torment.’
