The news that a lawsuit had been filed against Hakan Kabak, who worked as a security guard at a high school in Avcılar, Istanbul, for the sexual abuse of five 15-year-old girls, had shaken the public agenda. CHP Ankara Deputy Deniz Demir had brought the private security guard, who was hired at a high school in Avcılar despite having 12 separate criminal records, to the Parliament's agenda. A response to the parliamentary question submitted by CHP's Demir has come from the Minister of National Education.
Ankara Deputy Deniz Demir shared the response received with the public and spoke as follows:
THE CRIMINAL SECURITY GUARD'S CRIMINAL RECORD SUBMITTED TO THE INSTITUTION WAS CLEAN
“We asked the Honorable Minister about the scandal that occurred. The Ministry responded by stating, '...the criminal record certificate submitted to the institution by the aforementioned person contains the phrase 'the person whose identity information is provided above has no criminal record.' This response is a scandal. It is seen in Hakan Kabak's criminal record submitted to the court that he has 12 separate criminal records. How is it that the Ministry is unaware of these crimes? Are the documents submitted to institutions not checked to see if they are genuine or if they have been tampered with? Were all these crimes committed after he was hired? This also shows that our children are under a major security vulnerability.”
INSTEAD OF TORMENTING TEACHERS, ENSURE SECURITY IN SCHOOLS
“It is unacceptable that such reckless hiring practices are carried out in schools where we entrust our children. Our teachers, who have undergone security investigations and whose field training and pedagogical formations are certified, are struggling with the trouble of interviews. Minister Tekin comes out and defends interviews everywhere, saying, 'I have to see the teacher I am employing.' If you care so much about the safety of children, then what is this disgrace? Honorable Minister, instead of tormenting teachers, first ensure security in schools!”
