During the March 31 local elections, the People's Alliance IMM candidate Murat Kurum had visited the Galatasaray Sports Club.

In his statement following the visit, Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek had said, "I know very well how the honorable minister views Istanbul. We had the opportunity to discuss these matters both during his time at Emlak Konut and within the framework of his duties after becoming a minister. My personal opinion is that the honorable minister is a chance for Istanbul... I am extremely confident that he will continue his activities specifically within the framework of Istanbul's needs."
