He had lost 18 kilos: Mehmet Murat Çalık, who underwent surgery, to be transferred back to prison

The detention of Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, who was arrested on March 23 as part of investigations into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, continues despite his health problems.

Çalık, who was transferred from Marmara Prison to Buca Kırıklar Prison in İzmir on June 4, had previously requested his release due to having undergone cancer treatment twice before.

Following this application, Çalık underwent various tests at the İzmir Katip Çelebi University Atatürk Training and Research Hospital and was sent back to prison. However, due to his chronic pain, he was referred to the hospital again on Monday, June 23. He underwent surgery after the pathology report of his bone marrow biopsy revealed serious findings related to "lymphoma."

STATEMENT FROM ÇALIK’S LAWYER: UNFORTUNATELY, THEY WILL TRANSFER HIM TO PRISON

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, Çalık’s lawyer, Melih Koçhan, stated that the report following the operation had not yet reached them and said the following:

“The report is out, but we have not been able to access it yet. Unfortunately, they will transfer him to prison. There is no decision regarding our release request. The report came out yesterday, but we could not see it. It was released yesterday around 16:30, near the end of the workday. We are trying to obtain the report. After that, our release request will be evaluated.”
