He murdered his family while they slept! The requested sentence has been determined

On October 22, 2024, in the Mehmet Akif Ersoy neighborhood of the Sarıçam district, Serdar Aydın, who was allegedly receiving treatment for schizophrenia and had frequent disputes with his family, reportedly shot his mother Minteha Aydın (62), his father İlyas Aydın (64), and his grandmother Ülfet Köse (80) in the head with a handgun while they were sleeping at night. He then called the 112 Emergency Call Center, claiming that his family had been shot and were wounded. Police and medical teams arriving at the scene determined that Minteha Aydın and her mother Ülfet Köse had lost their lives. İlyas Aydın, who was seriously injured, passed away on the same day at the hospital where he had been taken. The handgun believed to have been used in the incident was also found in the house.

The public prosecutor completed the investigation into Serdar Aydın, who was arrested after the incident. The prosecutor prepared an indictment against the suspect Serdar Aydın for the crimes of 'intentional murder of a lineal ascendant', 'intentional murder against a woman and a lineal ascendant', and 'possession of an unlicensed firearm'. The indictment, which was sent to the Adana 4th High Criminal Court, was accepted after review.

3 AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCES REQUESTED

The prosecutor requested that the suspect Aydın be sentenced to 3 aggravated life terms for murdering his mother, father, and grandmother, as well as up to 3 years in prison for the crime of 'possession of an unlicensed firearm'.

The indictment included details regarding the murder of the 3 family members. Pointing out that the victims were shot and killed with a handgun while they were sleeping in the living room, the indictment stated that the suspect Aydın called the 112 Emergency Call Center at 04:19, claiming that his mother was screaming and that he heard gunshots from inside, and that he called the teams by stating his family had been shot.

The indictment noted that when the specified address was reached, the iron gate at the building entrance was intact with no signs of forced entry, the steel entrance door of the house showed no signs of forced entry, and all windows of the house were fitted with iron grilles.

DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT EMERGE

The indictment included details regarding the interior of the house where the massacre took place. It was stated that Ülfet Köse was found lying on her left shoulder on the sofa in the living room, covered and wounded in the head, while Minteha Aydın was found lying on the floor on her left shoulder, uncovered and wounded in the head, with a handgun with a magazine attached found at her feet, and that the magazine was empty while one 7.65 mm caliber cartridge was in the chamber. It was also noted that İlyas Aydın, who was estimated to have been lying on the sofa to the left of the entrance, had been transported to the hospital by medical personnel.

The indictment stated that İlyas Aydın passed away at the hospital where he was taken, and pointed out that the deaths occurred as a result of gunshot wounds to the body.

The indictment also noted that gunshot residue was found on the swabs taken from Serdar Aydın, and that it was determined that the 4 shell casings and 2 deformed bullets obtained at the scene were fired from the handgun found at the scene.

In the evaluation section of the indictment, it was stated: "When the investigation, the statements of witnesses and the complainant, the autopsy report, the crime scene investigation report, expert reports, crime scene photography work, and the entire scope of the file are evaluated together, it is understood that the suspect committed the crime he is charged with by killing his mother, grandmother, and father with a handgun for a reason that could not be determined."

The suspect Serdar Aydın did not accept the accusations in his statements. Claiming that he woke up to the sound of gunshots, Aydın said in his statement: "I went to sleep in the evening. Around 04:00, I heard a gunshot. When I went inside, they were lying in blood. Then I called the 112 Emergency Call Center and asked for help."

Serdar Aydın, who is noted to have 8 prior records for crimes such as 'threat' and 'intentional injury', told reporters while being taken to the Forensic Medicine Unit for a health check after his procedures at the police station: "I didn't do it. They are my father, mother, and grandmother. Whoever slandered me, this will be proven. What is necessary will be done to those who slandered me when the time comes. If I go to prison."

The suspect Serdar Aydın, who is alleged to have killed his mother, father, and grandmother with a handgun while they were asleep, will appear before the judge in the coming months.
