He revealed the AKP's early election plan: 'Erdoğan will not be able to run, the government in Turkey will change'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel's call for an early election, pointing to the date of November 2, 2025, has stirred the corridors of Ankara. Özel's invitation to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to debate on A Haber, saying "I dare you!", was evaluated as a message of determination on the opposition front.

"IF AN ELECTION WERE HELD TODAY, THE GOVERNMENT WOULD CHANGE"

Journalist Deniz Zeyrek, in his assessment on his personal YouTube channel, stated that Özel's move was a "correct political maneuver." However, he also emphasized that it is technically impossible to hold an election on November 2, 2025, due to the constitutional framework. Reminding that for an early election to take place, either the President must make the decision or 360 deputies must vote in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), Zeyrek said, "These plans will not work. Erdoğan will not be able to run in 2028."

Zeyrek said the following in his statement:

"Özgür Özel is speaking very clearly. The President and AKP spokespeople say they are ahead in the polls and claim they are not running away from an election. Then go ahead, bring the ballot box. But they cannot. Because if they went to an election right now, both Tayyip Erdoğan and the AK Party would lose. The government in Turkey would change; they know this very well."

"THEY ARE DESTROYING THEIR RIVALS WITH THE POWER OF THE STATE"

Zeyrek stated that the current government is aware of the economic crisis and social dissatisfaction but uses the judiciary and state power as political tools to gain time.

ECONOMIC PICTURE: PRICE HIKES, BANKRUPTCIES, POVERTY

Deniz Zeyrek argued that the main reason the government avoids an early election is the worsening economic picture. Pointing to high inflation, increasing bankruptcies, and the decline in purchasing power, Zeyrek made the following assessment:

"The people cannot make ends meet. Inflation is reported at 35%, but civil servant salaries are increasing by 15%. Rents have skyrocketed, and companies are going bankrupt one after another. Foreign investment is not coming. There is a serious contraction even in tourism. Tourists who used to go to Greece and Italy are not coming to Turkey because it is now expensive here. It is obvious that Turkey is not being managed economically."

"NO ONE CAN SEIZE THE WILL OF THE NATION"

Zeyrek also reacted to a report published by Bloomberg, which argued that there are no longer competitive elections in Turkey:

"Is Turkey transitioning to a period without elections? Where are you transitioning to, my friend! The change of government through elections is the last bastion of democracy. No one can take away my right to vote. The will of this nation cannot be usurped."

"HE CANNOT RUN IN 2028"

Touching on the debates regarding Erdoğan's candidacy for a third time, Zeyrek claimed that the government has a plan to "make Erdoğan a candidate again by having the Parliament pass an early election decision in 2027." However, he claimed that this plan would not succeed either:

"I am saying it clearly, this plan will not work. If there is no election in 2026, the opposition will not bring the ballot box in 2027. Tayyip Erdoğan will not be able to run in 2028. They are trying to gain time until that day. But eventually, the ballot box will come to this country."
