He stabbed his ex-wife to death in the middle of the street

In an incident that occurred in Pendik on the morning of the previous day, 35-year-old Sevilay Karlı, a mother of 3 who worked at a hospital, had divorced 43-year-old Ümit Karlı 5 months ago due to severe incompatibility. The court had granted custody of the children to Ümit Karlı.

According to allegations, Sevilay Karlı went to her ex-husband's house yesterday with her boyfriend to pick up her children. Upon this, Ümit Karlı said, "Do not bring this man home while my children are there." After the argument, the young woman took her children and went to her home in Pendik. Ümit Karlı intercepted his ex-wife, Sevilay Karlı, at the Güzelyalı Bridge and stabbed her 17 times, killing her.

Following the incident, Ümit Karlı was taken into custody by teams from the Pendik District Police Department Public Security Bureau.

It was learned that in his statement, Ümit Karlı said, "We divorced 5 months ago from Sevilay, who is also my relative. We have 3 children. I have their custody. She came with her lover last night to pick up the children. I warned her not to bring her lover home while my children were there. However, she did not listen to me. After we argued, she took the children and left. I waited in front of her house in the morning. When she came out to go to work, I wanted to talk again. However, she did not listen to me. At that moment, I lost control and started stabbing randomly."

SHE HAD FILED A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT WITH THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

The body of Sevilay Karlı, who was stabbed 17 times and killed, was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy. Her ex-husband, Ümit Karlı, was referred to the courthouse after his statement. It was learned that Sevilay Karlı had previously filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office because she was threatened with death by her ex-husband, Ümit Karlı, who had agreed to a consensual divorce in exchange for custody of the children. Meanwhile, Sevilay Karlı's body was taken to her hometown of Almus, Tokat.
